ISN Harvest

PROGRAM INTRODUCTION

The Harvest Program is designed to support collecting and managing data on subsistence resources and harvests, aiding Tribes in developing and tracking their harvests, stewardship of data, effective harvest management plans, and co-management agreements. A key goal is to build a comprehensive understanding of harvests and keep track of animal populations (i.e., harbor seal and Steller sea lions). The Harvest Program also supports food security by monitoring the health of harvested resources through bio-sampling training. By bridging Western science with Traditional Ecological Knowledge, the program seeks to understand the impacts of wildlife population or terrestrial harvest species (i.e., berries, etc.) changes, elevating insights from traditional knowledge holders to inform future management decisions. Additionally, the program emphasizes collecting and disseminating subsistence harvest monitoring data by ensuring data sovereignty principles.
